There is no review every day for what we learned in the classroom. When I returned home, I didn’t have chance for self-study. If there is something going on at home, I would have to help with some tedious jobs. No special books were available for extra-curricula reading. There was no time for self-study. So it could be said that there was no reference book for education at the time.
Kàu-tī ko-téng kho ê sî ū sió-khóa ê chham-khó su. Ko-téng kho chiū-sī hiān-sî chho͘-tiong ê thêng-tō͘. Khòaⁿ-tio̍h chiah-ê chham-khó su hui-siông khòaⁿ-chòe pó-pòe. There were a few reference books when I entered the higher class of the elementary school. The higher class was the somehow similar to the junior high school of this time (1980’s). These reference books were precious to me. Beyond textbooks, I liked to have other books to read. Although there were not many, I could not have any. However, at the end of every school year, I got an award for "Superior Academic Work and Proper Morality and Behaviors".

The food we ate every day was the vegetable and grain grown in the farm. We did not use other kinds of money to buy. Only when we needed to buy meat, fish, oil, salt, we needed to buy them from the town of Pak-kang. When we needed to buy them my father would buy them. And brought them back to be used along with our own kind of crude vegetables as our food.

My mother herself made the clothes we wore. There were no "finished products" at that time. Every piece of clothing must use the cloth bought by my father and tailored by my mother herself, according to the sizes of the children's bodies.

We went to school barefoot every day. It was the happiest time at Christmas time because every child would have a pair of shoes to wear. So when I saw a pair of shoes, I felt they were very precious.

Children messed with seeds, fragments of roof tiles, bowls or dishes when children were playing. We play hide-n-seek; chasing one another, jumping circles drawn on the ground, as games. There weren't as many toys as there are games of toys nowadays
